What the Weather Here Does to It
This area sits in a severe heat band, and that heat does specific things to a garage door that milder climates don't see as often. Steel panels expand during the day and contract at night, and over enough summers that cycle works the welds and hinges loose. Nylon rollers and plastic gear sets inside the opener get brittle faster under sustained high heat, which is why we see more stripped gears here than in openers that spend their lives in cooler garages.
Springs lose tension from heat exposure too. A spring rated for a certain number of cycles doesn't care about the calendar, but heat speeds up metal fatigue, so a spring on a house here often reaches the end of its life sooner than the same spring would somewhere cooler.
